Briefly about Murmansk

Murmansk is a city in Russia, administrative center of the Murmansk region. Located on the coast of the Kola Bay of the Barents sea. Is the largest city in the world located beyond the Arctic circle. One of the largest ports of Russia. Bears the honorary title of hero–City was awarded several medals. The internal division of the city is represented by three administrative districts. The population of 307,7 thousand people, 85,25% of Russian, of 6.37% of Ukrainians, 2.28 per cent of Belarusians.

Based in 1915 year as Murmansk port. The name given by the name of the Murman coast (Murman) that stretches from the Norwegian border to Cape Saint Nose. Around the port formed the village of Semenov, named after the Bay and a nearby lake, which was later added to the territory of the city. The official founding date is considered to be 1915 the year when the temple was founded in honor of the patron Saint of seafarers Nicholas of Myra. The city was given the name Romanov-on-Murman after the ruling at the time of the dynasty. In 1917 year, it was renamed Murmansk.
